Petit Paris

Grassmarket Edinburgh

visited 22/1/09

This is a good place to go if you can't think of anywhere else. It's pretty good, fairly authentic French cooking. Most of the standards are available and always pretty tasty with a good wine list. This time I had:

Soupe de poisson: disappointing. Completely blended so no texture and too much tomato. Also had been waiting a bit too long for me too eat it with first signs of a skin forming.
Sausage with a vegetable stew. Proper French sausage with some simple boiled carrots and spuds. Fine
Crepes with cointreau: they do a good crepe but like the main course it took too long to get them to the table (the waiter did apologize for short staff in the kitchen)

Wine: nice generic sauvignon blanc and a lovely Pic St Loup which I recommend here.

Not my best visit to the PP but I shall go again. It's a pretty convivial place for dinner with a bunch of people, and you get some clean, strong flavours.

I agree with The Widgeon: Le PP is a cheerful place for a convivial evening where if you don't expect too much then you won't be disappointed. Good atmosphere, service a bit slow, and food perfectly OK, even good but on my visit there was no exchanging of forkfuls and no interruptions in the conversation to allow expressions of pleasant surprise.
